Client: Owner of a successful building business
Objective: Act as the CFO to Ensure the client can focus on the hands on, management side of the business.
Our client started in the building industry as an apprentice, eventually making the move to run their own business. From humble beginnings, they now employ a team of 15 tradespeople as well as an office administrator. Being someone with a hands-on background, CountPlus One was able to help manage the compliance of the business and let the client focus on what they do best – running the business.
In the beginning we focused on providing basic business information and advice such as tax obligations and insurance requirements. As the business grew, we assisted with a restructure into a company and family trust, which considered tax planning and asset protection. We set the client up on Xero cloud accounting software, set up the employees on the Xero payroll system for single touch payroll, and added an application to allow the client to manage and monitor project costs. We then provided training to the office manager so they could administer the software themselves. We now provide an ad-hoc needs basis support service for their systems.
More recently in conjunction with our financial advisers, we assisted with the setup of a self-managed super fund which has been used to purchase a factory bay which the business now rents and operates from.
Ongoing, we provide a monthly VCFO service including a monthly meeting to review and analyse business performance, comparing the business in industry benchmarks and our own budget and discuss strategic business decisions.
