Ian Donaldson Honoured For His Life-long Services to the Community
City Pacific Limited and CP1 Limited Chairman Ian Donaldson, was publicly rewarded for his many years of service to the community in this year's Queens Birthday honours list, being made a Member (AM) in the General Division of the Order of Australia.
Mr Donaldson, who has been Chairman of the Boards of Directors for both companies from their respective beginnings, was officially recognised for his outstanding philanthropic work, namely developing Leukaemia support foundations, a life-long involvement in church organisations, and a much respected profile from working at the highest levels in business and commerce. He has held three Queensland government appointments and been on the board of five public companies listed on the ASX.
In 1983, after successfully recovering from an operation for cancer, Mr Donaldson joined the Leukaemia Foundation of Queensland (LFQ) to become its honorary Treasurer (1983-1990). He retired from this position to become the LFQ's honorary President in 1990, a position he held for thirteen years until 2003.
In 1995 Mr Donaldson became Inaugural Chairman of the Leukaemia Foundation of Australia and he and the Foundation's Executive Director, Philip Desbrow (Deceased), were instrumental in influencing LFQ to assist or fund the establishment of Leukaemia Foundations in each of the mainland states of Australia and for these organisations to join the Leukaemia Foundation of Australia so that there would be one comprehensive and seamless support service provided to leukaemia patients across Australia.
Mr Donaldson's philanthropic activities have not waned since his departure from the Leukaemia Foundation. He is currently Chairman of Trustees for the Hearts for Africa Trust for the relief of poverty in Tanzania, and Chairman of the Advisory Board of the Centre of Philanthropy and Non-Profit Studies at Queensland University of Technology which is the pre-eminent research body in Australia for philanthropy and the non-profit sector generally.
Mr Donaldson is also honorary Chairman of the Audit and Risk Committee for the Anglican Diocese of Brisbane that includes 22 Anglican schools and a vast welfare organisation.
